You’re always in survival mode.

Your next expensive disaster is always just around the corner.

No credit can be as damaging as bad credit.

There is an entire industry devoted to keeping you poor.

You get charged for using your own money.

This one line from the article (which is quite good) that jumped out at me: “Everything in a poor person’s life is a cash vampire.” Cheap cars break down more often. Cheap clothing wears out faster. Cheap food is generally more unhealthy and less nutritious. Lack of insurance can make chronic conditions into emergencies. If you can’t afford to make a down payment on a house, then you throw money away by renting. Etc.

“That’s life in a world with no financial margin for error. It’s like trying to climb out of a dick pit but the ladder is also made of dicks.”

I loved that whole article, but I had to crack up at the “I’m not photoshopping that” graphic following that sentence.

I know this is an article from Cracked, but that doesn’t make it any less true. I’d like to add another, if I may be so bold:

When you say “I have no money” you literally mean no money. Bank statement says $0, or worse negative. When people who aren’t poor say they have no money, what they actually mean is they have no money that they want to spend at the time. Big difference.

Holy fuck this entire article is a must-read.
